Introducing 'National Trust Papers II'

July 20th, 2021
Little Greene

National Trust Papers II’ is an eclectic collection of contemporary designs based on original patterns from the National Trust’s historic houses.

Little Greene has been working with the National Trust since January 2018. The inaugural paint collaboration, ‘Green’, has been followed by the ‘National Trust Papers’ wallpaper collection and most recently by the ‘Stone’ collection of 36 paints, 11 of which with a noteworthy origin in a National Trust property. Autumn 2021 sees the launch of ‘National Trust Papers II’ comprising 42 colourways across seven designs; the collection is a celebration of enduring design, with the origins of these contemporary wallpapers spanning over 400 years of historic decoration.

Each wallpaper in the collection has been redrawn and recoloured, whilst respectfully acknowledging the traditional methods and materials from which they were originally crafted. Design elements are taken from Georgian and Victorian block-printed papers and also from older, decorative objects including a leather wall-hanging and a 15th century tapestry. The contemporary interpretation of each design makes this a truly timeless collection of papers for homes of all architectural styles.

Patterns include the delightful, trailing ‘Massingberd Blossom’ from Gunby Hall in Lincolnshire, the playful and charming ‘Burges Snail’ from Knightshayes Court, authentic late Georgian ‘Beech Nut’, uncovered at Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk, ‘Mandalay’ a tree of life design taken from a leather wall hanging purchased by Rudyard Kipling, scrolling damask design ‘Tulip,’ small-scale print ‘Moy’ and delicate botanical ‘Millefleur’ inspired by a lovingly conserved tapestry at Montacute House.

Little Greene’s Marketing Director, Ruth Mottershead, is delighted to be working in association with the National Trust once again:

“We are immensely privileged to have access to the National Trust’s incredible portfolio of properties, that are so beautifully looked after and treasured by the Trust on behalf of the nation. With the National Trust properties each containing such diverse decoration, creating a collection that encompasses the wide-ranging styles found in these historically significant interiors is a real joy.”

Clare Brown, Head of Brand Licensing and Retailer Development for the National Trust, adds

“Little Greene really understands and respects the decorative arts and designs that can be found within the National Trust’s historic houses, which is why we are delighted to be collaborating with them on a second wallpaper collection. Seeing how the places in our care continue to inspire not just visitors, but contemporary interior design as well, is so thrilling. Not only will these beautiful designs be a great addition to any home, but the sale of every single roll will help support our work looking after nature, beauty and history for everyone, for ever.”
